Shipment transit status widget and on orders page

After a customer has placed an order, they want to know where their parcel is. This leads to many support questions. This would be resolved if there would be a widget at the top of each page: Your order is on its way! Current status: out for delivery. Click here for more information. And on the orders page, it would be great to have an icon next to each order for the shipment status: In Transit, Exception, On Hold, Available for Pickup, Out for Delivery, Return to Sender, Delivered There are various 3rd party providers that provide shipment transit status and tracking for pretty much all shipping services.
